An ode to whirlwind Wahab Riaz — an ode-de- whirlwind

Wahab Riaz called time on his fifteen-year international career yesterday . Leftarm tearaway bowler had a total of matches across all formats accounting for wickets . Career statistics can sometimes be deceiving in sport such that while they do provide a good measure of how well a player has performed over a stretch of time they often miss the essence of what made that player special .

Wahab has the unwanted distinction of being the only Pakistani bowler to have conceded more than runs in an ODI on three separate occasions his worst excursion came against England at Trent Bridge in where he leaked runs without featuring in the wickets column .

But by no means does it suggest that Wahab was amongst the best in his generation . He bowled turbo pace but had a tendency to be ridiculously erratic at times and had his limitations with respect to doing much else . His Test record is one can argue taking into account his quality is taking into his quality into account .

He was an outandouthorse who could not prove to be as incisive as some of the fast bowlers of his era he could not show any signs of tiring for the end of his innings at the end . All said and said he could still cut it at the Test level however while he still could still be incisive and could not be as good as the fast bowler in the Test .

He took in in his debut at the longest ODI at the Oval at the highest of his form at the international level in the longest at the age of his age of the Test series at the World Series at the middle of his own . He couldnt prove to prove to the end at the top of the series .
