The inquiry committee is set to gather statements from relevant officials, including the sessions judges who were assigned to oversee the construction work. Upon completion of the investigation, the contractor may potentially face proceedings by NAB (National Accountability Bureau) or FIA (Federal Investigation Agency).
The construction project commenced in November and spanned nearly a decade before reaching completion.Recently, a significant incident occurred when the boundary wall of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) collapsed earlier this month, prompting Chief Justice Aamer Farooq to order an inquiry.
Several crucial systems, such as the firefighting, lightning protection, and security systems, have yet to be installed within the IHC building. Additionally, the filtration plant in the newly constructed Islamabad High Court is not functioning properly, resulting in the need to provide additional split units for judges and senior staff to maintain a suitable working environment.
Unfortunately, the lower staff members are still without air conditioning. The IHC building became operational in June this year, but crucial systems such as firefighting and lightning protection are yet to be implemented. Concerns regarding the filtration plant’s malfunction were communicated to the Pakistan Public Works Department, and the housing ministry was notified of the issues with the air conditioning system.
In October of the previous year, the resident engineer had pointed out that the elevators did not meet the specified requirements, which prompted action from the housing department. These concerns were reiterated in May, and previous instances of such concerns were noted in October 2013, March, and April, with the resident engineer repeatedly highlighting issues with the elevators in the office block.
