Civil society bodies Pattan Development Organisation and Coalition have also unanimously passed a resolution demanding the ECP not to use the Census for new delimitation of constituencies on multiple grounds . They claimed the CCI lacked constitutional legitimacy as two of its members chief ministers of KP and Punjab attended the meeting in a caretaker capacity.
The Constitution doesnt allow caretaker chief ministers to take any policy decision the resolution stated. The PBC may decide to go for a lawyers movement similar to that in launched for the restoration of former Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges Mr Shah added.
After taking stock of the situation we may decide for a Lawyers movement. The council members will still hold a meeting next week to assess the situation. Later Syed Amjad Shah a PBC member told Dawn. The Council of Popular Democracy (CPD) will still be holding a meeting to discuss the situation in a different way.
The Pakistan Bar Council PBC has also expressed serious reservations and strongly condemned the PPP’s position. They said they will still consider the statement. The Pakistani Bar Council of Democracy (PPD) would not be holding the meeting. It will not be commenting on the matter.
