The Pakistan Bar Council PBC strongly condemned the Election Commission of Pakistans ECP decision to conduct fresh delimitation and delay elections beyond the constitutional limit of days . On Thursday the electoral watchdog released the schedule of delimitation for provincial and national constituencies .
The announcement of the schedule necessitated by the recent approval of the census results by the Council of Common Interests effectively means that elections cannot be held in Pakistan . Article of the Constitution binds the watchdog to conduct the general elections within days of the assemblys dissolution .
The PBC stressed that it was the ECPs duty to conduct free fair and transparent elections within the stipulated period as mandated by the Constitution . A day earlier the PTI rejected the delimitation schedule and termed it a ploy to delay the polls.
The party announced that it would challenge the decision before the Supreme Court today. The PTI said that it will challenge the move before the court today and said it would fight the decision in a statement that the decision was based on malicious intent in a press release .
