Typhoon Haikui leaves trail of destruction in Taiwan . Typhoon Haikeui leaves a

Haikui initially appeared to leave the island but made a second landfall early on Monday in southwestern Kaohsiung before it was downgraded to a severe tropical storm . There were no reports of deaths but destruction was seen in coastal Taitung a mountainous county in lesserpopulated eastern Taiwan where the storm directly hit the day before .

More than households temporarily lost power through the day . Hundreds of flights were cancelled and businesses were closed in cities as torrential rain bucketed down . Nearly people were injured during the typhoon according to authorities though they were minor mostly due to fallen trees and car accidents .

The typhoon is now expected to bring strong winds and rain to the south and northeast and to Taiwans outlying islands of Kinmen and Penghu . It is expected to continue to bring heavy rain and strong winds to the outlying areas of Kinman and Pengu. It is not the first typhoon landfall in Taiwan in four years to hit the island in a four-year-old years ago, according to the authorities though many were injured though they are minor mostly to car accidents and fallen trees were reported to have been injured by the typhoons .

The storm is believed to have caused serious damage to the island’s main areas of land. It has also caused a number of landslidesidesides to fall in some of Taiwan’s main rivers and streams of rivers and rivers. It was also expected to cause a significant amounts of damage to its major rivers and towns and townships.
